A FAIRY TALE FOR GROWN UPS

panslabposter4.jpgI’ve been dying to see Pan’s Labyrinth for weeks now and I finally got the chance tonight - WOW! If you’re a fan of cinema and the art of story telling, look no further, this is the movie for you.

Pan’s blurbs:

Set in 1940s Spain against the postwar repression of Franco’s Spain, a fairy tale that centers on Ofelia, a lonely and dreamy child living with her mother and adoptive father, who is a military officer tasked with ‘ridding the area’ of rebels. In her loneliness, Ofelia creates a world filled with fantastical creatures and secret destinies.

Do yourself a favor, if you haven’t seen Guillermo Del Toro’s outstanding work of art, you need to RUN to the nearest movie theater and go see this film.

INDIE FLIM FEST - 100% ORGANIC

silverlake_film.jpgFor the past six years, the Silver Lake Film Festival has blessed the city of Los Angeles with one of the coolest independent film and art festivals around.

SLFF blurbs:

Silver Lake Film Festival was created to specifically address the lack of opportunity for independent narrative features and documentaries, as well as short films, to be seen by audiences in movie theaters. These are films that reflect a personal vision of the filmmaker, rather than a commercial imperative. In fact, the majority of films screened at the annual SLFF festival would otherwise never been seen by Los Angeles audiences in any context - in theaters, on TV or DVD, etc. In addition to its annual festival, the organization presents a monthly screening of short films that is consistently SRO and a variety of media arts and related arts programming throughout the year.

SLFF has managed to stand out by being true to the art of film making and building a solid reputation in the community.

The 7th annual Silver Lake Film Festival is scheduled for May 3-12, 2007, in various venues in Los Angeles’ eastside

LET THEM EAT POP CONFETTI

marie-antoinetteLooks like the critics are divided on Sophia Coppola’s new movie, “Marie Antoinette”. Some early reviews are calling the movie’s loosely adherence to the facts nothing more then a mish-mash of pop confetti, while others are calling it’s offbeat style, costumes and production design opulent and beautiful.

MA the movie’s blurbs:

From the imagination of Oscar winning writer/director Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) comes a vibrant retelling of the classic story of Marie Antoinette, the naive Austrian princess, who is thrown into the scandal-ridden world of the French aristocracy when she is betrothed to King Louis XVI. While still a teenager, Marie Antoinette conquers her fears and becomes France’s iconic queen.

Regardless of what the critics say
, I’m sure it will be an art house fav… besides, the soundtrack alone is worth the 10 bucks to go see it — Viva La Pop!

The INDIE CRAFT DOCUMENTARY

Indie Craft DocumentaryAfter reading the Indie Craft Documentary Myspace page, I knew collaborators Faythe & Micaela had a great concept for a documentary moive on their hands and a great story that deserves needs to be told.

ICD blurbs:

The new wave of craft is an emerging movement of artists, crafters and designers working in traditional and non-traditional mediums and methodologies to forge a new economy, lifestyle and community.

This new movement is influenced by the history and techniques of traditional handiwork, modern aesthetics, politics, feminism and art. The new wave of craft is a marriage of your grannies handi-work, punk and d.i.y.. We will be spending the next 7 months touring craft fairs, studios, galleries and boutiques We will speak with organizers, curators, cultural theorists, historians and the crafters themselves, documenting the new wave of craft so that we can give our watchers a thorough overview of this new art movement sweeping the nation.

Finds like the ICD page on Myspace sort of validate why I still go there and I for one, can’t wait to see this documentary when it comes out!
